Darren Motamedy – All About Love

Sept. 11, 2016

Veteran saxman Darren Motamedy’s new release All About Love is a true example of how to move one’s audience from one mood to another in a hurry.darren-motamedy-cd

No stranger to stroking the smooth jazz groove, the saxman proves here that the years have been kind to his grip on the genre’s heart and soul.

After opening with an up-tempo finger-snappin’ jam called “50 Shades of Cool,” the direction and mood switches to the laid back and almost “tame” tracks “Afterglow” and the title track. He then hits you with the reflective cool and rhythmic “Floetic Smooth” featuring the effective spoken word and vocals by one Portionte Floes.

Following this series of moods, he jumps into your groove spot with both feet as he throws at you his mid-tempo and funky “All You Wanna Do,” followed by another equally funky, mid-tempo tune called “So Sweet.” Nope, he’s not done yet as “Last Flight to Vegas” places you aboard that flight with lots of sass and up-tempo flair. He does take it down a notch on the melodically sweet “You’re Incredible” before wrapping it all up with one last funky dancer called “Too Close.”

Some artists feel their music as they are composing and playing it. Some just come to the party already there mentally…before setting one note to paper. For some reason, I get the vibe that Motamedy belongs in that latter group. His passion is always obvious, his intensity alive and real. Take a listen to this one, and see if you don’t agree. – Ronald Jackson
