Jim Stubblefield — Encantado

Nov. 2, 2015

Guitarist Jim Stubblefield, the co-founder of the group Incendio, offers here his 6th solo effort Encantado, an absolutely beautiful, melodic, engaging, and exciting set of tunes which could easily use Latin and World exoticism as its (lengthy) surname.Jim Stubblefield

As a long-time aficionado of this style of guitar work, I find Stubblefield’s offerings here standing tall and proud next to the likes of Johannes Linstead, Strunz & Farah, Jesse Cook, and so many others. This material has culture, flavor, vivid color, and the ability to firmly embrace. You either want to dance or fall in love all over again.

The lead track “Beyond the Horizon” has a hauntingly gorgeous attraction to its enticing dance, while tracks like “Puesta del Sol (for JDZ)” and “Across the Burning Sands” just may find you dancing along and claiming the entirety of some South American beach in your mind.

“Cielo Azul” is so very suitable for an inviting sunset under the stars staring out at the gentle ocean before you with your special star nestled beside you. The melody here will leave you totally mesmerized.

There are many more where these come from on this album, and you’ll do yourself a grave injustice if you don’t permit each track to caress and capture you in its splendor.

To be able to say so much with this style of playing is no easy feat. Yet, those who master this type of storytelling and artistic “painting” possess a very special inner feel and understanding of the impact of getting this right. It truly has the power to mentally and emotionally transport anyone anywhere they want to be in a musical instant.

Treat yourself to yet another excellent display of the musical terrain of Latin & World beauty. Encantado is an A+ effort. – Ronald Jackson
